Design of a three-part booklet series raising awareness of rare liver conditions in newborns. The booklets needed to communicate the same core medical information but to three distinct audiences: parents, nurses and midwives, and paediatricians. My objective was to create a cohesive suite of publications while tailoring the content, tone and visual hierarchy to meet the needs of each audience. The challenge was to communicate complex clinical information in a way that was accurate, accessible and appropriate for varying levels of medical knowledge.
I developed a flexible editorial design system that could be adapted across all three booklets while maintaining a consistent visual identity. I used warm illustrations, simple iconography and clear information hierarchy to make the content approachable and easy to navigate. Each booklet was carefully tailored to its audience... observational and reassuring for parents, practical and action-focused for nurses and midwives, and more detailed and clinical for paediatricians, ensuring the design supported the way each group would engage with the information.
The final booklet series delivered a cohesive set of educational resources that communicated complex medical guidance clearly to three different audiences without compromising consistency. The project strengthened my experience in audience-centred design, editorial design, information hierarchy and developing adaptable visual systems for complex healthcare communications.
